Carl Hare
Carl Hare pairs creative experience with technical know-how as a freelance photographer and FUJIFILM UK Product Specialist. His photography spans many genres, and while his professional roots trace back to weddings, Carl is equally adept at studio portraiture, street photography, landscapes and wildlife.
Keen to share his wealth of knowledge, Carl has delivered photography workshops for close to a decade. His passion for the outdoors is a constant source of inspiration, and when he can combine it with his teaching skills, there’s simply nothing better – for him and his students.

What can you expect from the Capturing London At Christmas photo walk?
This photo walk is aimed at photography beginners and enthusiasts, though those who want to test out the range of equipment or enjoy a day out with our photography community are more than welcome!
With a lot of freedom to work at your own pace, Carl will help you navigate your way around and help you produce great images. There is less focus on in-depth tuition and genre theory, however, you do have the opportunity to talk directly to Carl who will be able to answer your specific photography queries.
London is a magical place during and after sunset, heaving with character, history, architecture and fun — with boundless opportunities for you to create evocative and engaging night-time images. Learn essential tips for composition, exposure and focus tips and techniques in low-light situations. There will also be a selection of cameras and lenses to try out in the evening.
The itinerary for the evening
14:00 – Meet at the House of Photography for introductions, a briefing on the route and Health and Safety, and an overview of locations. There will also be a quick overview of exposure settings.
15:00 - Leave House of Photography, start the photo walk, and visit some of London’s iconic locations along the river Thames.
Some of the iconic locations we may cover include; Covent Garden, Blackfriars Bridge, Southwark Bridge, The Tower of London, Tower Bridge, City Hall, The Scoop, The Shard, Clink Street, Shakespeare's Globe, The Tate Modern, Millenium Bridge, OXO Tower, The Southbank, Waterloo Bridge, The London Eye.
What will you learn?
After a brief overview of basic camera settings, Carl will delve into exposure techniques, emphasising how aperture, ISO, and shutter speed interplay.
He'll demonstrate long exposure methods to capture motion and teach capturing light trails for dynamic night photography. Additionally, Linda will show how to creatively use reflections in urban landscapes and water, adding depth to images.
Participants will also receive tips on street and black-and-white photography, focusing on candid moments and contrast. You'll learn to locate and immortalise the most photogenic spots in the area, blending technical skills with creative storytelling.
What kit do you need?
You’re welcome to bring your own set-up, although a selection of the latest FUJIFILM cameras and lenses will be available on the day. Photographers travelling lighter are also welcome to borrow 3LeggedThing tripods and Kase filters.

As the UK weather is so unpredictable, be sure to pack weather-appropriate clothing, wear comfortable shoes, and take a bottle of water and snacks to keep you going. Though we will have a designated break time to rest, catch up and reset, there will be a lot of walking and time spent outside.
Activity and mobility requirements for attendees
This photo walk around London is suited for photographers with a moderate activity level. All locations are only a short walk within London City Centre, however, there are some areas that might not be fully wheelchair accessible.
First aid
Your photo walk leaders are fully First Aid Trained for outdoor activities and will always carry a full Outdoors First Aid kit.

Tickets do not include any expenses, train fares, meals, taxi fares, parking charges, etc unless otherwise stated. Please aim to arrive 15 minutes before your session time.
