Carl Hare
Hampshire-based Carl Hare pairs creative experience with technical know-how as a freelance photographer and FUJIFILM UK Product Specialist. His photography spans many genres, and while his professional roots trace back to weddings, Carl is equally adept at studio portraiture, street photography, landscapes and wildlife.
Keen to share his wealth of knowledge, Carl has delivered photography workshops for close to a decade. His passion for the outdoors is a constant source of inspiration, and when he can combine it with his teaching skills, there’s simply nothing better — for him and his students.

What can you expect from the Edinburgh photo walk?

With a lot of freedom to work at your own pace, Carl will help you navigate your way around and help you produce great images. There is less focus on in-depth tuition and genre theory, however, you do have the opportunity to talk directly to Carl who will be able to answer your specific photography queries.
Edinburgh is rich in history, laden with fine architecture and heaving with character. There’s boundless opportunity to create evocative imagery at any time of the day – and there’s no better way to drink it all in than with like-minded photographers. During this photo walk, you’ll see some of the city’s most iconic locations, all of which lie in the shadow of the magnificent castle, sat high on its volcanic perch and learn to take photos from a different perspective.
The itinerary for the day
Note: Please aim to arrive 15 minutes before your session time.
11:00 – 11:15
Meet at the entrance to Princes Street Gardens for an introduction with Carl, along with your fellow photographers. You will then receive a briefing on the route and Health & Safety guidance.
11:15 – 14:30
Visit some of Edinburgh’s most exciting and picture-worthy locations at a pace comfortable for all. You’ll also learn about the most photogenic buildings in the area and how to create memorable images. Please note that there may be some stairs on the route.
Carl will be offering imaging guidance throughout — Individuals photographing in Edinburgh for the first time, or those familiar with the city, are all sure to discover something new.

Arrive back at the starting point for a debrief and Q&A session.
For those wishing to stay overnight, there are plenty of hotels in the area. Car parking is available nearby at NCP Castle Terrace, EH1 2EW or Q Park OMNI Green Side Row, Edinburgh, EH1 3AN.
What will you learn?
After an initial refresh on basic camera settings, Carl will move on to explain valuable exposure techniques — including exposure settings, composition, and how to manipulate the highlights and shadows.
These will include tips for street photography, black and white photography, composition, and how to anticipate a compelling story to freeze the moment in time.
As ever, light and exposure are crucial, so they will receive due time and attention as the day progresses. You’ll receive different photo briefs throughout the day to help you experiment with camera settings and photographic techniques.
What kit do you need?
You’re welcome to bring your own set-up, although a selection of the latest FUJIFILM cameras and lenses will be available on the day. Photographers travelling lighter are also welcome to borrow 3LeggedThing tripods and Kase filters.

As the UK weather is so unpredictable, be sure to pack weather-appropriate clothing, wear comfortable shoes, and take a bottle of water and snacks to keep you going. Though we will have a designated break time to rest, catch up and reset, there will be a lot of walking and time spent outside.
Activity and mobility requirements for attendees
This photo walk around Edinburgh is fully accessible and is suited for all photographers with a moderate activity level. All locations are only a short distance from Edinburgh City Centre.
First aid
Your photo walk leaders are fully First Aid Trained for outdoor activities and will always carry a full Outdoors First Aid kit.

Tickets do not include any expenses, train fares, meals, taxi fares, parking charges, etc unless otherwise stated. Please aim to arrive 15 minutes before your session time.
Terms and Conditions for FUJIFILM School Events
1. Event Confirmation and Minimum Attendance
1.1 Once you have purchased a ticket, your place on the day will be reserved and you will receive a confirmation email.
1.2 FUJIFILM School endeavours to conduct events as scheduled. However, all events are subject to a minimum number of delegates, which is set at three (3) participants.
1.3 In the event that the minimum number of delegates is not met, FUJIFILM School reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the event. Participants will be informed of any such changes at the earliest possible opportunity.
1.4 You need to be at least 18 years of age to take part in this event and a disclaimer form will need to be completed on the day to take part in the day’s activity. In case of emergency on the day, please email fujifilm_schoolUK@fujifilm.com.
2. Adverse Weather Conditions
2.1 Safety is a top priority for FUJIFILM School. If there are adverse weather conditions or official weather warnings that may affect the safety or feasibility of conducting an event, FUJIFILM School reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the event.
2.2 Participants will be notified as soon as possible in the event of cancellation or rescheduling due to weather-related issues.
3. Cancellation and Rescheduling
3.1 If an event is cancelled or rescheduled by FUJIFILM School due to insufficient numbers or adverse weather conditions, participants will be offered the option to transfer their booking to the rescheduled event date, another event, or receive a full refund.
3.2 FUJIFILM School will not be liable for any additional costs incurred by participants due to the cancellation or rescheduling of an event.
4. Participant Cancellations
4.1 Participants wishing to cancel their attendance must provide notice in accordance with FUJIFILM School's cancellation policy to be eligible for a refund or transfer. If circumstances change and you need to cancel your place, please let us know 10 working days before the event and we will be happy to issue you a refund in full. Places cancelled after this time are non-refundable.
5. Communication
5.1 FUJIFILM School will use the contact information provided at the time of booking to communicate any changes or cancellations. It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure that their contact details are current and accurate.
By booking an event with FUJIFILM School, participants acknowledge and agree to these terms and conditions. FUJIFILM School reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time. Participants will be notified of any changes that may affect their booking.
