Before we share the details of our photography workshop, let’s get to know more about our Workshop leader who will be accompanying you on food photography journey.
Carl Hare
Carl Hare pairs creative experience with technical know-how as our FUJIFILM UK Experiential Marketing Specialist, FUJIFILM School Trainer and as a freelance photographer based in Hampshire. His photography spans many genres and while his professional roots trace back to weddings, Carl is equally adept at commercial product, studio portraiture, macro, street, travel, landscapes and wildlife photography.
Keen to share his wealth of knowledge, Carl has delivered photography workshops for close to a decade. His passion for the outdoors is a constant source of inspiration and when he can combine it with his teaching skills, there’s simply nothing better – for him and his students.

What can you expect from this workshop?
This workshop is aimed at the aspiring commercial food photographer of a beginner or intermediate level or customers just wanting to take photographs of food to the next level. Customers can expect a comprehensive and hands-on experience to enhance their food photography skills and guidance on all aspects of exposure including Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO control, as well as creative controls such a composition, framing and colour theory.
The itinerary for the day
Note: Please aim to arrive 15 minutes before your session time. Locations and timings are subject to change due to weather or workshop group.
11:30am – 13:30pm: The first part of the day is classroom-based learning, with Carl taking you through photography and creative fundamentals.
13:30pm – 14:30pm: Lunch Break
14:30pm – 17:30pm: The remainder of the afternoon will be spent putting the learning into action with a practical session. Expect lots of hands-on and image-making opportunities.
What will you learn?
The day will provide a comprehensive grounding in commercial food photography. Carl will cover a wide range of techniques and ideas, starting with a recap of basic exposure settings before diving into specifics including fundamental equipment needs, colour theory, composition, basic food styling as well as lighting.
For the practical part of the workshop, you will receive picture-taking advice, including which camera settings to use, tips for accurate focusing, depth-of-field control, compositional guidance and how to create inspiring and powerful backgrounds can also be discussed.
What kit do you need?
You’re welcome to bring your own set-up, although a selection of the latest FUJIFILM cameras and lenses will be available on the day. Photographers travelling lighter are also welcome to borrow 3LeggedThing tripods.

First aid
Your workshop leaders are fully First Aid Trained and will always carry a full First Aid kit.

Terms and Conditions for FUJIFILM School Events
1. Event Confirmation and Minimum Attendance
1.1 Once you have purchased a ticket, your place on the day will be reserved and you will receive a confirmation email.
1.2 FUJIFILM School endeavours to conduct events as scheduled. However, all events are subject to a minimum number of delegates, which is set at three (3) participants.
1.3 In the event that the minimum number of delegates is not met, FUJIFILM School reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the event. Participants will be informed of any such changes at the earliest possible opportunity.
1.4 You need to be at least 18 years of age to take part in this event and a disclaimer form will need to be completed on the day to take part in the day’s activity. In case of emergency on the day, please email fujifilm_schoolUK@fujifilm.com.
2. Adverse Weather Conditions
2.1 Safety is a top priority for FUJIFILM School. If there are adverse weather conditions or official weather warnings that may affect the safety or feasibility of conducting an event, FUJIFILM School reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the event.
2.2 Participants will be notified as soon as possible in the event of cancellation or rescheduling due to weather-related issues.
3. Cancellation and Rescheduling
3.1 If an event is cancelled or rescheduled by FUJIFILM School due to insufficient numbers or adverse weather conditions, participants will be offered the option to transfer their booking to the rescheduled event date, another event, or receive a full refund.
3.2 FUJIFILM School will not be liable for any additional costs incurred by participants due to the cancellation or rescheduling of an event.
4. Participant Cancellations
4.1 Participants wishing to cancel their attendance must provide notice in accordance with FUJIFILM School's cancellation policy to be eligible for a refund or transfer. If circumstances change and you need to cancel your place, please let us know 10 working days before the event and we will be happy to issue you a refund in full. Places cancelled after this time are non-refundable.
5. Communication
5.1 FUJIFILM School will use the contact information provided at the time of booking to communicate any changes or cancellations. It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure that their contact details are current and accurate.
By booking an event with FUJIFILM School, participants acknowledge and agree to these terms and conditions. FUJIFILM School reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions at any time. Participants will be notified of any changes that may affect their booking.
