Who will be joining you?

Before we share the details of our Analogue London photowalk, let’s get to know more about the photography guide who will be accompanying you on our analogue photo walk of The Big Smoke.

Ang Li

A FUJIFILM House of Photography brand ambassador, Ang Li, has strong experience and technical expertise in analogue film photography. From an enthusiast whose first two 35mm rolls turned out to be blank 10 years ago to an aspiring visual artist, Ang has been constantly gaining knowledge and experience from his past mistakes and developing his potential by exploring various genres and new techniques. He would like to invite you to go on a journey where you will be able to slow down your footsteps and your mind, just enjoying the beauty around you for a minute before the shutter fires. Ang is keen to share his tips for shooting analogue film and how slowing down your photography can help you get the best out of your photo walk and photography skills.

What can you expect from the London photowalk?

This analogue photowalk is aimed at photography beginners and enthusiasts, though those who want to improve their skills shooting with analogue cameras and film and enjoy a day out with our photography community!

With a lot of freedom to work at your own pace, Ang will help you navigate your way around and help you produce great images. There is less focus on in-depth tuition and genre theory, however, you do have the opportunity to talk directly to Ang who will be able to answer your specific photography queries and share tips and techniques for getting the perfect shot.

You will be provided with a choice of a roll of either Fujifilm 200 or Fujifilm 400 35mm film for the photowalk. This will include developing and digital scanning of the one film roll that we provided as well as print copies of your images (available three working days after the photowalk).

This walk will take in some of the most iconic parts of London, including but not limited to St Paul’s Cathedral, Southbank and Westminster before heading back through Soho to the FUJIFILM House Of Photography to end the photowalk.

Itinerary for the day

Note: Please aim to arrive 15 minutes before your session time.

11:30 – 12:00

Meet at the House of Photography for introductions and a Health and Safety Briefing followed by an introduction to 35mm film photography and our photowalk route. You can also pick up extra film rolls in the store before we head out.

12:00-14:00

Leave the House of Photography and start the route. Some of the iconic locations we may cover include: St Paul’s Cathedral and the South Bank (the route might be adjusted according to the time limit or weather).

14:00-15:00

We will stop around the South Bank for lunch. Make sure to be fully rested and recharged, but also feel free to explore around and take more pictures as you like.

15:00-17:00

After lunch, we will continue our walk and head back towards the House of Photography. On the way back, we will pass by Westminster, Soho, China Town, Trafalgar Square and St James Park (the route might be adjusted according to the time limit or weather).

17:00-17:30

Arrive back at the House of Photography for a debrief and hand out of film processing forms. If you have more questions about analogue photography, you are welcome to stay and talk to Ang and our other photo experts.

What will you learn?

After an initial refresh on the analogue basics including film choice and camera settings. Ang will move on to explain valuable exposure techniques — including exposure settings for film, how to meter correctly for scenes with highlights and shadows.

Ang will promote the act of ‘slowing down’ and how to take in the surroundings to take the best photographs possible. As ever, light and exposure are extremely crucial when photographing using 35mm film. You will receive due time and attention as the day progresses and opportunities to ask the questions of your choice.

What kit do you need?

You will need to bring your own 35mm camera, these will NOT be provided by our team. You will be provided with a choice of a roll of either Fujifilm 200 or Fujifilm 400 35mm film for the photowalk. This will include developing and digital scanning of your film as well as print copies of your images (available three working days after the photo walk).

Photographers travelling lighter are also welcome to borrow 3LeggedThing tripods.

Please do contact us on fujifilm_schoolUK@fujifilm.com or call us on 0203 486 4610 if there is anything you want to try. We will try our very best to accommodate you.

As the UK weather is so unpredictable, be sure to pack weather-appropriate clothing, wear comfortable shoes, and take a bottle of water and snacks to keep you going. Though we will have a designated break time to rest, catch up and reset, there will be a lot of walking and time spent outside.
