Carl Hare
Carl Hare pairs creative experience with technical know-how as our FUJIFILM UK Experiential Marketing Specialist, FUJIFILM School Trainer and as a freelance photographer based in Hampshire. His photography spans many genres and while his professional roots trace back to weddings, Carl is equally adept at commercial product, studio portraiture, macro, street, travel, landscapes and wildlife photography.
Keen to share his wealth of knowledge, Carl has delivered photography workshops for close to a decade. His passion for the outdoors is a constant source of inspiration and when he can combine it with his teaching skills, there’s simply nothing better – for him and his students.

What can you expect from the York photo walk?
This photo walk is aimed at photography beginners and enthusiasts, though those that want to test out the range of equipment or enjoy a day out with our photography community are more than welcome!
With a lot of freedom to work at your own pace, Carl will help you navigate your way around and help you produce great images. There is less focus on in-depth tuition and genre theory, however, you do have the opportunity to talk directly to Carl who will be able to answer your specific photography queries.
This Fujifilm photowalk gives enthusiasts the opportunity to create striking images of York. After an introduction and some expert photography advice, Carl will guide you through York’s ancient streets so you can put what you’ve learnt into practice.
Itinerary
Throughout the day and evening, you’ll receive different photo briefs to help you experiment with camera settings and photographic techniques.
10:00am - 10:15am
Meet at exhibition square.
Introductions and briefing will take place, where photographers will discuss experience and expectations. This is also where you will be able to borrow lenses and other equipment if needed.
10:15am - 14:00pm
Visit some of the area’s most photogenic locations at a pace comfortable for all. Carl will offer guidance throughout.
Locations may include, but are not limited to; York Minster Cathedral, the Shambles market, York’s Medieval city walls and more impressive attractions.
Note: Please aim to arrive 15 minutes before your session time.
What will you learn?
After a brief overview of basic camera settings, Carl will delve into exposure techniques, emphasising how aperture, ISO, and shutter speed interplay.
Carl will also demonstrate long exposure methods to capture motion. Additionally, Carl will show how to creatively use reflections in urban landscapes and water, adding depth to images.
Participants will also receive tips on close up photography, street and black-and-white style photography, focusing on candid moments and contrast. You'll learn to locate and immortalise the most photogenic spots in the area, blending technical skills with creative storytelling.
What kit will you need?
You’re welcome to bring your own set-up, although a small selection of the latest FUJIFILM cameras and lenses will be available on the day. Photographers travelling lighter are also welcome to borrow 3LeggedThing tripods and Kase filters.

As the UK weather is so unpredictable, be sure to pack weather-appropriate clothing, wear comfortable shoes, and take a bottle of water or hot drink as well as a snack to keep you going. Though we will have a designated break time to rest, catchup and reset, there will be a lot of walking and time spent outside.
Activity and mobility
This photowalk around York is suited for all photographers with a moderate activity level. There will be some steps up onto the Historic Walls. All locations are only a short distance from York City Centre.
First aid
Your workshop leaders are fully First Aid Trained for outdoor activities and will always carry a full First Aid kit.
Additional information
Tickets do not include any expenses, train fares, meals, taxi fares, parking charges, etc unless otherwise stated. Please aim to arrive 15 minutes before your session time.
Terms and Conditions for FUJIFILM School Events
1.1 Once you have purchased a ticket, your place on the day will be reserved and you will receive a confirmation email.
1.2 FUJIFILM School endeavours to conduct events as scheduled. However, all events are subject to a minimum number of delegates, which is set at three (3) participants.
1.3 In the event that the minimum number of delegates is not met, FUJIFILM School reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the event. Participants will be informed of any such changes at the earliest possible opportunity.
1.4 You need to be at least 18 years of age to take part in this event and a disclaimer form will need to be completed on the day to take part in the day’s activity. In case of emergency on the day, please email fujifilm_schoolUK@fujifilm.com.
2.1 Safety is a top priority for FUJIFILM School. If there are adverse weather conditions or official weather warnings that may affect the safety or feasibility of conducting an event, FUJIFILM School reserves the right to cancel or reschedule the event.
2.2 Participants will be notified as soon as possible in the event of cancellation or rescheduling due to weather-related issues.
3.1 If an event is cancelled or rescheduled by FUJIFILM School due to insufficient numbers or adverse weather conditions, participants will be offered the option to transfer their booking to the rescheduled event date, another event, or receive a full refund.
3.2 FUJIFILM School will not be liable for any additional costs incurred by participants due to the cancellation or rescheduling of an event.
4.1 Participants wishing to cancel their attendance must provide notice in accordance with FUJIFILM School's cancellation policy to be eligible for a refund or transfer. If circumstances change and you need to cancel your place, please let us know 10 working days before the event and we will be happy to issue you a refund in full. Places cancelled after this time are non-refundable.
5.1 FUJIFILM School will use the contact information provided at the time of booking to communicate any changes or cancellations. It is the participant’s responsibility to ensure that their contact details are current and accurate.
